Boost your immune system
At a time that is dominated by a stubborn pandemic, we focus more than ever on our health. Good nutrition plays an important role. And so does a good story. So tell your guests what ingredients you are using, and explain how they help give the immune system a considerable boost.
In recent times, we have all done our best to keep the coronavirus at bay. We therefore understand that a strong immune system is important for our resistance and our health. We get vitamin D from going outside and exposing our skin to the sun. Regular exercise and drinking enough water also help keep the body fit. In addition, our immune system is to a large extent formed by what we eat. And as a chef, you can tell your guests a lot about this!
Lemon grass
Lemon grass is a good source of vitamin A and C. Both of those vitamins are important for immunity. Vitamin C is also known for its high levels of antioxidants. Add lemon grass to soups, sauces, stews and desserts.
Ginger
Ginger seems to protect the stomach and intestinal mucous membranes and increase the absorption of vitamins and minerals. Even in ancient times, people realised that ginger aids digestion. Ginger tastes very good when combined with citrus fruit in desserts.
Lime
The phytonutrients in lime give your immune system a considerable boost. Limes are also chock full of vitamin C: the secret weapon against an oncoming cold. Always grate some lime over your dish just before serving. The first thing your guests will notice is the scent molecules from the peel.
Turmeric
Turmeric contains curcumin: a powerful antioxidant that combats infections in the body. Turmeric is best absorbed by the body when it is combined with black pepper.
Cinnamon
The contents of this spice have antibacterial and antifungal properties. Cinnamon helps fight infection and is full of antioxidants. Cinnamon always goes well with desserts, but can also be incorporated into savoury dishes. Think, for example, of tomato soup. Cinnamon and tomato can enhance the aroma of basil.
Green apple
Green apples are full of vitamin C and antioxidants. They protect the body against cardiovascular diseases, since they lower cholesterol levels. The juice of green apples can be added to dishes to lend some acidity. Freeze the apples and after defrosting, put them through the juicer.
Basil
Basil helps fight colds and flu. The herb has a positive effect on digestion and lowers blood sugar levels. Basil goes very well with desserts. They are particularly tasty in combination with strawberries.
It is medically proven that taking an ice bath reinforces your resistance to illness. Your body makes more white blood cells, thus raising your immunity. And the better your immune system, the less likely it is you will get sick. Cold also reduces inflammatory proteins, thus reducing our reaction to inflammation.
This is why Debic has developed a dessert named The Ice Hole: it is made up of ingredients that boost your immune system, such as green apples, fresh ginger, cinnamon and basil. Fermented products, such as yoghurt made with Debic Cream, also help restore the intestinal wall. This helps the absorption of nutrients by the body. In short: good for your guests and a great story!
